about pet registration

Registering your pets through Winnebago County Animal Services is required by law and a great way to keep them safe and healthy. Here are a few of the reasons pet licensing and registration are important.

It keeps your pet (and our community) healthy. A pet registration ensures that your cat or dog has been to the vet and is up to date on its rabies vaccinations.

It helps reunite you with your pet in the event it gets lost. A current registration provides the information needed to help find or reunite you with your lost pet.

It’s the law. A current Winnebago County registration tag and rabies vaccination is required by law for all cats and dogs and is an important part of responsible pet ownership. Having an unregistered pet could result in fines.

Your fees help fund other services. County registration fees are affordable and a major source of revenue for our animal welfare efforts, animal population control initiatives, education, and outreach.
